Heavy Showers and Thunderstorms Expected; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a short term forecast for Guam and Guam coastal waters. Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected, with possible flooding across Guam for the next few hours. The NWS forecast will be updated as necessary as the situation continues to develop.

Be alert for possible flood advisories or warnings over the next several hours.

If driving, be alert for heavy downpours, low visibility and brief flooding of roads. If outside, seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard. Boaters can expect visibility down to half a mile in heavy showers and are advised to stay below deck if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

thunderstorm advisory is in effect for the Guam International Airport until 6:30 p.m. this evening. Thunderstorms are possible within 20 nautical miles of the airport. Take precautions as needed.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) advise residents and visitors to practice extreme caution while traveling in rainy conditions, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.
