Response to LP Gas Tanker Crash; No Dangerous Health Impacts to the Community

Situation Update
At 9:14 a.m., the Guam Fire Department (GFD) was notified of a single-vehicle crash that occurred when a LP gas tanker truck veered off of Rt. 2 into a ravine near George S. Sanchez Ct. and the San Dionisio Church, Humåtak. As a result of the impact, the tank, holding approximately 1,300 lbs. of LP Gas, separated from the truck chassis and was breached. Firefighters and first responders are on scene and monitoring the release of the contents.

Road Closures
Both southbound and northbound roads on Rt. 2 into Humåtak surrounding the San Dinisio Church are closed to traffic. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes.

Evacuations
Residents in the surrounding area were notified of the tanker truck incident and advised to relocate to the Humåtak Mayor's Office, if necessary. GFD HazMat is conducting continuous air monitoring at the crash site and surrounding areas. As a result of the air monitoring, GFD has isolated the area from the public.

Response Efforts
Units from the GFD Agat and Humåtak Fire Stations, GFD HazMat, the Guam Police Department, Rescue 3, the Guam Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Coast Guard Forces Micronesia, Sector Guam, have responded to the crash site.

Responding agencies are staged in various upwind safe locations from the crash site while the contents of the tank are allowed to purge completely before further securing the truck.

What the Public Can Do
The GFD advises the community to refrain from burning or open flames if in the area. Although the air quality is deemed safe for the community upwind from the incident, it is advised to stay indoors, especially those with respiratory issues.

This is a developing situation. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
