JIC RELEASE NO. 241 - Avoid Sharing Unofficial Information

COVID-19 test results are reported from multiple labs at varying times of the day. The Joint Information Center will report cumulative COVID-19 test results once a day, unless unavailable.

For updated information on COVID-19 cases on Guam, visit the COVID-19 Dashboard and Situation Report at http://dphss.guam.gov/covid-19/.

Avoid Sharing Unofficial Information
The Joint Information Center (JIC) is aware of unverified messages circulating on chat groups and social media about positive COVID-19 cases at the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA).

At this time, five individuals are in the COVID-19 Care Unit at the GMHA. Two of these individuals are receiving Intensive Care Unit (ICU) level care and both are stable. Contact tracing is ongoing and indicates that four of GMHA’s COVID-19 patients are connected to the same household.

The JIC is also aware of a separate viral message on chat groups and social media alerting people of contact tracing efforts including calling individuals and requesting for personal information or payment information for test kits and test results. The viral message is unofficial and the Department of Public Health and Social Services will never ask for social security numbers, credit card, or banking information during official contact tracing calls.

The community is reminded to only share verified, official information with others to avoid the spread of misinformation.

For the latest information on COVID-19, visit dphss.guam.gov or guamrecovery.com. For inquiries on COVID-19, contact 311 through a local number, or call the Joint Information Center at (671) 478-0208/09/10.
