JIC Release No. 25 - Typhoon Mangkhut Still Moving Westward and Intensifying

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office monitors Typhoon Mangkhut as it continues to strengthen and move westward.

As of 10 p.m., Mangkhut was located 15.1 degrees north latitude and 150.9 degrees east longitude, about 345 miles east of Saipan and 425 miles east of Guam, with maximum sustained winds now at 85 mph.
typhoon warning remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, Saipan, and adjacent coastal waters in the Mariana Islands, meaning typhoon conditions, including destructive winds of 74 mph or more, are expected as early as Monday afternoon.
Expected Winds
Based on the latest forecast, Typhoon Mangkhut is expected to pass near or north of Rota late Monday afternoon as a Category 2 or low-end Category 3 intensity typhoon.
Guam can expect the following wind speeds:
·Damaging winds of 39 mph or more are expected as early as early as 1 p.m. Monday
·Destructive winds of 58 mph or more are expected by early as 6 p.m. Monday
·Closest Point of Approach is expected around 8 p.m. Monday
Damaging winds will last from early Monday afternoon through early Tuesday morning.
Remember, these are projections and the storm still have the ability to slow down, speed up, move farther south or even strengthen. Continue to prepare. 
 
Dangerous Waves and Seas
Combined seas in excess of 30 feet are possible due to the expected high winds near the center. Stay out of the waters until COR 4 is announced.
