On Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 11:32 a.m. (ChST), Guam’s second COVID-19-related death occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital (GMH). The patient presented at the Guam Regional Medical City (GRMC) on March 24, 2020 and was transferred to GMH where he remained in isolation throughout the week.

The patient was 79 years old with underlying health issues, which were compounded by COVID-19. The patient had no recent travel history but initial investigations indicate the patient may have contracted COVID-19 from community contact.

Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and her chief medical advisers, Dr. Mike Cruz and Dr. Joleen Aguon, urge everyone to continue to stay home, exercise good hygiene, wash your hands, and practice social distancing by maintaining a physical distance of at least six feet between yourselves and others. These measures are the most effective things the community can do to combat the spread of COVID-19.
