JIC Release No. 8 - Emergency Shelters Anticipated to Open on Monday Morning

Plans are in place to open Guam Department of Education (GDOE) schools as emergency shelters on Monday morning.
 
As such, there will be no GDOE classes on Monday, September 10, for students. Only essential personnel as part of emergency operations will be required to report for duty.  
 
Governor Calvo urges those in the community whose homes cannot withstand typhoon-strength winds, to make arrangements to stay with a friend or family member or in one of the emergency shelters.
 
Substandard housing absolutely will not be able to withstand the expected typhoon force winds.
 
The following shelters are expected to open on Monday morning, September 10More information on the exact time of opening, along with a complete list of rules and regulations, will be provided in an upcoming press release.
 
DO NOT attempt to go to these shelters now, they are not expected to open until Monday.
 
Northern Shelters:

Ø  Maria Ulloa Elementary School
Ø  Machananao Elementary School
Ø  Upi Elementary School
Ø  F.B. Leon Guerrero Elementary School
Central Shelters:
Ø  Carbullido Elementary School
Ø  George Washington High School
Southern Shelters:
Ø  M.U. Lujan Elementary School
Ø  Merizo Elementary School
Ø  Inarajan Middle School
Ø  Talofofo Elementary School
Ø  Harry S. Truman Elementary School

Upon completion of the following preparedness tips, it is important to take pictures of your home and around property before the storm approaches. These pictures can be used in the aftermath of the storm for insurance purposes, when damage assessments are conducted over the island.
