267th COVID-19-Related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center was notified that Guam’s 267th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Regional Medical City on December 1, 2021. The patient was an 85-year-old female, unvaccinated. She tested positive on November 29, 2021.

“Governor Leon Guerrero and I pray for solace for her friends and family,” said Acting Governor Josh Tenorio. “With the holidays here, we must remain persistent with our efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at upcoming gatherings. Continue to wear your mask around others who are not within your immediate household, keep a safe and healthy distance between yourself and others, and do not attend a social gathering if you are sick. Most importantly, get vaccinated if you are eligible and get your booster shot if it’s been six months or more. These are all important measures to emerge from this holiday season stronger.”

SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 3 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 26 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID- 19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 9 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.
