COVID-19-related Fatalities Adjusted
Two (2) COVID-19 positive patients whose deaths were previously reported as COVID-19-related fatalities on November 4, 2021 and December 13, 2021, were subsequently found not to be the result of COVID-19. The Department of Public Health and Social Service (DPHSS) Office of Epidemiology and Research has revised the COVID-19-related fatality count to 272.

SPECIAL NOTE: Based on today's data, if we were to compare two (2) hypothetical populations of 100,000 people each, vaccinated versus unvaccinated, there would be 6 vaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to 62 unvaccinated people hospitalized for COVID-19. The risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19 is about 10 times higher for the unvaccinated as compared to the vaccinated. *Estimated population is based on DPHSS Immunization Program analysis of 2020 Census data. Updates are expected pending further Census 2020 data breakdown.

Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 309 New Cases of COVID-19 January 8 – January 10
Today, DPHSS reported thirty (30) new cases of COVID-19 from 262 specimens analyzed on January 9, 2022. Six (6) cases were identified through contact tracing. An additional 279 cases were also reported today as a result of complete analysis and case submissions from other clinics for preliminary COVID-19 test results reported January 8 – 9, 2022. Official case counts for the past weekend results are as follows:

256 of 1,769 test positive for COVID-19 (94 cases previously reported on January 8, 2022). Ninety-seven (97) cases were identified through contact tracing.
238 of 1,588 test positive for COVID-19 (121 cases previously reported on January 9, 2022). Sixty-two (62) cases were identified through contact tracing.

To date, there have been a total of 21,118 officially reported cases, 272 deaths, 1,679 cases in active isolation, and 19,167 not in active isolation. The CAR Score is 162.6.

Tiyan COVID-19 Outreach Moves to Appointment-Based Testing, Hours Extended
The community COVID-19 testing at the old carnival grounds in Tiyan, Barrigada has transitioned to an appointment-based system. Scheduling of appointments for COVID-19 testing will allow for more efficient processing and reduce long lines and wait times. Unscheduled drive-ups will be accepted on a limited basis. Register for SimpleReport for Faster Processing of COVID-19 Test Results
Residents and patients who plan to get tested for COVID-19 are encouraged to register for SimpleReport, a free, user-friendly web-based app, that remembers required patient information for easier, simpler reporting of COVID-19 test results. Once registration is completed, protected patient information is stored for all future testing. A QR code may be issued to patients once they are registered to the SimpleReport system. Individuals who test negative for COVID-19 will receive a text message through their mobile phones with instructions to verify their identity to view their results. Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will be contacted the same day of testing and are encouraged to isolate immediately. DPHSS staff will contact the patient to screen for other isolation measures, symptoms, and coordinate for monoclonal antibody therapy treatment, if eligible. You may also request for a copy of your results via email by sending a request to covidresults@dphss.guam.gov.

SNAP Supplemental Emergency Allotment for January 2022

Guam COVID-19 Vaccination Update
As of January 8, 2022, a total of 130,380 of Guam’s eligible population (residents 5 years and older) is fully vaccinated. This total includes 12,957 residents 12 – 17 years old. 5,259 residents 5 – 11 years old received their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose series. 3,401 residents 5 – 11 years old have completed their two-dose series. An additional 1,013 residents received their booster shots and a total of 42,666 booster shots have been administered to eligible residents since September 29, 2021.

Wildfire

Regularly clean the roof and gutters.
Maintain an area approximately 30’ away from you home that is free of anything that will burn, such as wood piles, dried leaves, newspapers and other brush.
Connect garden hoses long enough to reach any area of the home and fill garbage cans, tubs, or other large containers with water.
Review your homeowner's insurance policy and also prepare/update a list of your home's contents.

Turn on your TV/radio. You’ll get the latest weather updates and emergency instructions.
Know where to go. If you are ordered to evacuate, know the route to take and have plan of where you will go. Check-in with your friends and family.
Keep your car fueled, in good condition, and stocked with emergency supplies and a change of clothes.

Drought

Conserve water

Take shorter showers.

Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving.
Run the washer less frequently and only when you have a full load.
Water your lawn less frequently and do so when the temperature is cooler in the early morning or late evening.
When you run the tap to heat or cool water, keep a pitcher to store the water and use it to water plants.
Avoid washing your car.

Practice fire prevention

Don't set off fireworks when conditions are dry.
Deposit cigarette butts in the proper receptacle to avoid starting a
Pour water over camp fires and backyard fire pits to ensure they are completely out before leaving them unattended.
