The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) tested 47 individuals for COVID-19 on Saturday, April 25, 2020 with conclusive results. Zero tested positive through DPHSS and 47 tested negative for SARS-CoV-2. The results include samples from the COVID-19 Pilot Project testing site in Astumbo, Dededo. Additional samples from this pilot project will be tested Sunday, April 26, 2020.

The DPHSS overall count also includes probable cases of COVID-19 and confirmed positive cases tested by the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) in San Diego, the U.S. Naval Hospital (USNH) Guam, the Guam Memorial Hospital Authority (GMHA), the Guam National Guard (GUNG), and Diagnostic Laboratory Services.

To date, 141 cases have been confirmed through COVID-19 testing provided, with 5 deaths and 128 released from isolation. When a patient is released from isolation, her or she is no longer considered infectious. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) research and published guidelines, a patient is released from isolation after at least 72 hours have passed without a fever or additional respiratory issues and at least seven days have passed since symptoms first appeared. All remaining cases are in isolation.

DPHSS COVID-19 Pilot Project Update
DPHSS, in collaboration with the Government of Guam and federal and private partners, launched a COVID-19 Pilot Project Drive-Through/Walk-In Testing from 9 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. today, April 25, at the Astumbo Gym in Dededo. Testing was provided to residents of Sagan Linhanyan and Lower Astumbo who met the following criteria:

  • Individuals with COVID-19 symptoms

  • Multi-generational families in a household (parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, adult children, their children) with COVID-19 symptoms

The goal of this pilot program is to expand community testing. Government of Guam and private sector nurses took samples from 52 people; 10 were walk-ins and 42 went through the drive-through line. The Guam Public Health Laboratory is processing the samples through a laboratory process called polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect traces of the virus that causes COVID-19.
