GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, December 7, 2021, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

JIC RELEASE NO. 872 - COVID-19 Community Testing at Tiyan Canceled Due to Inclement Weather

The Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) COVID-19 community-based testing scheduled for today at the old carnival grounds in Tiyan, Barrigada has been canceled due to safety concerns over inclement weather. 

COVID-19 testing at the Northern Region Community Health Center (NRCHC) continues as scheduled today but may close early based on weather conditions. 

Flood Advisory in Effect for Guam; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Tiyan Guam has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Guam until 10:30 a.m.

Heavy rainfall is occurring. Up to one half inch of rain had already fallen. Additional rainfall of up to 1.5 inches is expected. 

Some locations that will experience flooding include Dededo, Tamuning, Yigo, Mangilao, Chalan Pago-Ordot, Barrigada, Yona, Hagatna Heights, Andersen AFB, Talofofo, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Inarajan, Asan, Merizo, Piti, Santa Rita and Umatac.

Stronger Winds and Hazardous Seas Continue Due to Passing Tropical Disturbance

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a special weather statement for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. A circulation centered about 205 miles south-southeast of Guam, near 11 degrees north latitude and 146 degrees east longitude, is moving west-northwest at about 16 mph and continues to slowly develop.

Wind Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued an airport wind advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 10 p.m. this evening. Winds of 15 to 20 knots with gusts to 35 knots are possible, especially near heavier showers.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to practice caution while traveling in rainy conditions, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.
