145th COVID-19-related Fatality Reported
The Joint Information Center (JIC) was notified that Guam’s 145th COVID-19-related fatality occurred at the Guam Memorial Hospital at approximately 6:40 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2021. The patient was an 88-year-old male with underlying health conditions and unvaccinated. The patient had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 14, 2021. 

Thunderstorm Warning in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam issued a thunderstorm warning in effect for the Guam International Airport until 1 p.m. for thunderstorms within 5 miles of the airport.

 

Additionally, a thunderstorm advisory is in effect for the airport until 1 p.m. for thunderstorms possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. Be alert and take precautions as required. If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, get indoors or inside a vehicle.

 

September is National Preparedness Month – “Prepare to Protect”

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) invite the island to celebrate September as National Preparedness Month (NPM). To commemorate the month, Governor Lou Leon Guerrero will declare NPM with a proclamation signing on Friday, September 3, at 11:30 a.m., via Zoom and can be watched on the Governor’s Facebook page.
 

The 2021 NPM theme is “Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.”
