Hazardous Surf and Seas Remain; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due dangerous surf conditions.

A high surf advisory is in effect for Guam and Rota until 6 p.m. Friday along north and west facing reefs. Large surf of 7 to 9 feet today, building to 10 to 12 feet tonight, dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected.

High Surf Advisory in Effect through Friday; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office advised a large north swell will generate hazardous surf on north and west facing reefs through Friday.

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

A high surf advisory is in effect for Guam and Rota until 6 p.m. Friday. Large breaking waves of 9 to 11 feet are expected along north and west facing reefs. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected.

Report positive COVID-19 at-home and over the counter (OTC) test results to the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) via email: dphss.surveillance@dphss.guam.gov. You must report your positive result within 24 hours and provide the following information:

Wind Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution on the Roadways

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued an airport wind advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 7 p.m. this evening. Winds of 15 to 20 knots, with gusts to 30 knots are possible, especially in heavier showers.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to practice caution while traveling in rainy conditions, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.

    No Immediate Threat to Marianas Assessed from Reported North Korea Launch

    The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today. 

    GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

    The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, starting at 3:15 p.m.

    GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

    High Risk of Rip Currents and Small Craft Advisory Remain in Effect; Wind Advisory in Effect

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

    A high risk of rip currents remains in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through late Monday night along east facing reefs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.  

    High Risk of Rip Currents in Effect through the Weekend

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has a high risk of rip currents in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through late Sunday night. Dangerous rip currents are expected for coastal waters of the Marianas. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous conditions. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.
