Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam until 10 a.m. this morning. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between 0.4 and 1.2 inches of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.4 to 1 inch are expected, resulting in minor flooding.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Yona, Talofofo, Inarajan, Asan, Merizo, Piti, Santa Rita, and Umatac.

Residents and visitors are advised to take the following precautionary actions:

    Report Positive COVID-19 At-home Test Results to DPHSS

    Report positive COVID-19 at-home and over the counter (OTC) test results to the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) via email: dphss.surveillance@dphss.guam.gov. You must report your positive result within 24 hours and provide the following information:

    Earthquake Recorded

    The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 that struck 60 km NNE of Yigo Village, Guam, with a depth of 107.4 km, at 12:29 p.m. (ChST).

    There were no damages or injuries reported from the earthquake. There is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake. 

    Wind Advisory in Effect; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

    An airport wind advisory is in effect for the Guam International Airport until 6 p.m. this evening. Winds of 15 to 20 knots, with gusts to 25 knots, are possible. Practice caution if traveling in these conditions.  

    Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous conditions.

    High Risk of Rip Currents Remains in Effect through Sunday

    The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office maintains a high risk of rip currents in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through late Sunday night along east facing reefs. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from the shore into deeper water. If caught in a rip current, do not swim against the current. Swim in a direction following the shoreline, face the shore and call or wave for help.  

    GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

    The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, starting at 3:15 p.m.

    GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.
