JIC RELEASE NO. 1109 - COVID-19 Test Results: 141 New Cases, 24 Hospitalized; Additional COVID-19 Updates

COVID-19 Test Results: 141 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 141 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,402 specimens collected August 9, 2022. Fourteen (14) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 56,367 officially reported cases, 384 deaths, 1,351 cases in active isolation, and 54,632 not in active isolation.

Earthquake Recorded

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.9 that struck 221 km SW of Merizo Village, Guam, with a depth of 47.4 km, at 3:36 p.m. (ChST). 

There is no tsunami threat to the Marianas from the earthquake. 

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport Authority until 11 a.m. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. These storms have been producing occasional lightning. Seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

COVID-19 Test Results: 109 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 109 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,401 specimens collected August 8, 2022. Nineteen (19) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 56,226 officially reported cases, 384 deaths, 1,210 cases in active isolation, and 54,632 not in active isolation.

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport Authority until 10:15 p.m. this evening. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. Be alert and take precautions as necessary. These storms have been producing occasional lightning. Seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

Port Authority AHAWS Siren to be Tested Today, August 8

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) will conduct a test of the All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) siren remotely from the Port Authority of Guam (PAG) location today, August 8, 2022, at 3 p.m.

The siren test from PAG is being conducted to assess operations. Residents, visitors and motorists surrounding the PAG AHAWS siren can expect to hear pre-scripted voice messaging announcing the start and end of the test, and the “Alert” tone.

COVID-19 Test Results: 103 New Cases Reported

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 103 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,508 specimens collected August 4, 2022. Seven (7) of the cases reported today are through the Department of Defense. To date, there have been a total of 55,925 officially reported cases, 382 deaths, 1,023 cases in active isolation, and 54,520 not in active isolation.
