NoDirect Threat Expected from Tropical Depression Atsani; Tropical Storm WatchCanceled for Guam

No Direct Threat Expected from Tropical Depression Atsani; Tropical Storm Watch Canceled for Guam

 

The National Weather Service (NWS) advised Tropical Depression Atsani (23W) continues to move farther west.

As of 5:00 p.m., the system was located near latitude 11.7 degrees north and longitude 142.5 degrees east, about 195 miles southwest of Guam, moving west-northwest at 17 mph.

NWS has canceled the tropical storm watch at 5:00 p.m. today. While the system is no longer a direct threat to Guam or the Marianas at this time, hazardous seas remain.

small craft advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday for the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan. Southeast winds of 15 to 25 kt with gusts of 30 to 35 kt and seas of 7 to 9 feet are expected. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) advise the community to practice extreme caution while traveling in rainy conditions, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.
