NWS Issues Small Craft Advisory for the Marianas

The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office, Tiyan, Guam has issued a small craft advisory for winds, in effect until 10 a.m. Saturday for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan coastal waters.

NWS advises a tropical disturbance passing to the south of Guam is expected to increase winds across the coastal waters of the Marianas today into Saturday. Wind speeds of 19 to 29 mph are expected into Saturday morning. The highest gusts will likely be tonight and south of Guam, where there could be gusts near 34 mph based on the expected track of the system. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid sailing in these conditions.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind that all care and caution must be exercised by anyone who will be near the ocean.
