Short term forecast issued for Guam; practice caution if traveling in rainy conditions

The National Weather Service (NWS), Weather Forecast Office Guam issued a short term forecast for Guam. Through 2 p.m., heavy showers and thunderstorms will drop up to an inch of rain over northern and central Guam and adjacent coastal waters.

If driving, be alert for brief flooding of roads, and for visibility’s near zero in heavy rain. Seek shelter if lightning is seen or thunder is heard.

A thunderstorm advisory is in effect for the Guam International Airport until 2 p.m. Thunderstorms are possible within 5 nautical miles of the airport and have been producing occasional lightning. Practice caution as required.

For the rest of today into tonight, it is expected to be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) remind the community to practice caution while traveling in rainy conditions, driving below the speed limit and allowing enough braking distance between vehicles.
