No Immediate Threat to Marianas Assessed from Reported North Korea Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today. 

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a thunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 11:30 p.m. this evening.  Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. Be alert and take precautions as required. Tonight is expected to be mostly cloudy with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 48 New Cases Reported October 18–24

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 48 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,812 specimens analyzed from tests administered October 17–23, 2022:

 
  • October 24: 8 of 181 test positive for COVID-19

  • October 23: 2 of 150 test positive for COVID-19

  • October 22: 9 of 201 test positive for COVID-19

  • October 21: 15 of 236 test positive for COVID-19

GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

Small Craft Advisory and Wind Advisory in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:  

A small craft advisory is in effect for the coastal waters of Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan until 6 p.m. this evening. Frequent gusts above 25 knots are expected due to passing thunderstorms. Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid boating in hazardous conditions.

Flood Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution in Heavy Rain

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a flood advisory, in effect for Guam until 10:15 a.m. Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has already fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 1.5 inches are expected, resulting in minor flooding.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Dededo, Tamuning, Yiogo, Mangilao, Ordot-Chalan Pago, Barrigada, Yona, Agana Heights, Andersen AFB, Talofofo, Mongmong-Toto-Maite, Sinajana, Inarajan, Asan, Merizo, Piti, Santa Rita, and Umatac.

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported eight new cases of COVID-19 from 406 specimens analyzed from tests administered October 14 – 16, 2022:

 
  • October 17: 2 of 124 test positive for COVID-19

  • October 16: 3 of 114 test positive for COVID-19

  • October 15: 3 of 168 test positive for COVID-19
