High Surf Advisory and High Risk of Rip Currents in Effect; Inexperienced Swimmers Advised to Stay Out of the Water

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued a high surf advisory in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan, in effect until 5 a.m. Saturday. Large breaking waves of 7 to 9 feet are expected along north and east facing reefs. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion are expected.

Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.

GHS/OCD, JRM, NBG, and AAFB to Conduct Routine Testing of Advanced Warning Systems

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), Joint Region Marianas (JRM), U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG), and Andersen Air Force Base (AAFB) will conduct routine testing of the vital communication and advance warning system sirens, respectively, on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, starting at 3:15 p.m.

GHS/OCD will test the nineteen (19) All Hazards Alert Warning System (AHAWS) sirens in conjunction with JRM, NBG, and AAFB monthly routine testing of the “Giant Voice (GV)” sirens.

JIC RELEASE NO. 1152 - Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 150 New Cases Reported November 15–21, Six Hospitalized; One COVID-19-related Fatality Reported; Additional COVID-19 Updates

Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 150 New Cases Reported November 15–21

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 150 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,381 specimens analyzed from tests administered November 14–20, 2022:

  • November 21: 3 of 128 test positive for COVID-19

  • November 20: 11 of 92 test positive for COVID-19

  • November 19: 27 of 192 test positive for COVID-19

  • November 18: 21 of 200 test positive for COVID-19

No Immediate Threat to Marianas Assessed from Reported North Korea Launch

The Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD), in conjunction with the Mariana Regional Fusion Center (MRFC), federal and military partners, continue to monitor events surrounding the region including reports of the recent launch of an unidentified projectile out of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) today. 

No Immediate Threat to Marianas Assessed from Reported North Korea Launch

Cumulative COVID-19 Test Results: 100 New Cases Reported November 8–14

Today, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) reported 100 new cases of COVID-19 from 1,418 specimens analyzed from tests administered November 6–13, 2022:

 
  • November 14: 6 of 160 test positive for COVID-19

  • November 13: 11 of 125 test positive for COVID-19

  • November 12: 6 of 128 test positive for COVID-19

Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect; Practice Caution

The National Weather Service (NWS) Guam Weather Forecast Office issued athunderstorm advisory, in effect for the Guam International Airport until 12 p.m. this afternoon. Thunderstorms are possible or occurring within 20 nautical miles of the airport. Be alert and take precautions as required.
