NWS Advisories in Effect; Avoid Hazardous Seas

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office has the following advisories in effect:

high risk of rip currents is in effect for Guam, Rota, Tinian, and Saipan through Sunday afternoon. Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore. Dangerous rip currents are expected along east facing reefs. On some beaches, such as Ritidian and Gun Beach, the high risk of rip currents could extend to north facing reefs.

No Direct Threat Expected from Disturbance; NWS Advisories in Effect

The National Weather Service (NWS), Guam Weather Forecast Office continue to monitor a tropical disturbance in eastern Micronesia, near Chuuk. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center issued a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert on this disturbance, Invest Area 95W.

The system is expected to move westward, passing well south of Guam by Tuesday, and passing near Yap by Wednesday or Thursday. At this time, the disturbance poses no direct threat to Guam or the CNMI.

Preliminary Damage Assessments Underway After Tropical Storm Kammuri

Pursuant to the Guam Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, the Offices of Guam Homeland Security and Civil Defense (GHS/OCD) and other Government of Guam (GovGuam) support agencies have begun conducting an island-wide Preliminary Damage Assessment (PDA) following the passage of Tropical Storm Kammuri south of Guam between, November 26-27, 2019.
 

JIC Release No. 6 - 29W Now Tropical Storm Kammuri; Remain Indoors and Off the Roadways

The National Weather Service continues to monitor what is now Tropical Storm Kammuri as it approaches the Marianas.

As of 7 p.m., Tropical Storm Kammuri was located about 11.2 degrees north latitude and 146.5 degrees east longitude, about 275 miles south of Saipan and 195 miles southeast of Guam. Tropical Storm Kammuri is moving west-northwest at 23 mph with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
